Review: Hide Me by Lexi Scott

Hide Me (Silver Strand #1) by Lexi Scott
New Adult, Contemporary Romance
Ebook/Print (224 pages, EMBRACE)
This is a part of me now...
Sometimes it's easier to run...
Ripped apart by guilt and grief, nineteen-year-old Whit Conrad grabs her stuff, runs from her super-conservative family in Pennsylvania, and hauls ass for sunny California. All she wants is escape. But what she gets is a craptastic apartment, a job at a tattoo parlour, and a life that's not her own. Then she meets a sexy, inked surfer who has the potential to capsize everything...
Deo Beckett is adrift. Underemployed and spending his time partying too hard, he knows he should be doing something more with his life. Being something more. All it takes is a pin-up hottie with a smart mouth-and a bruised soul-to force Deo to start looking below the surface. To wonder if there's more to life than being a beach bum. Now he's falling for Whit...hard.
But Whit has secrets, and she'll go to any lengths to keep Deo from discovering her past...
Previously released under the title Lengths August 2012, and has been enhanced with new material.

My completely unexpected new favorite romance. (5 stars)

It's no secret that I'm not that big on contemporary romances and even less into New Adult. When I accidentally accepted a review invite for HIDE ME I was pretty peeved at myself but I went against my gut and figured I'd just give it a couple of chapters before I DNF'd it. Yeah, I went in knowing I wouldn't like it... and came out loving it.

Whit Conrad is terribly deep in grief and running away from any chance at happiness she could possibly have when aimless surfer boy Deo Beckett happens into her life. I'll admit his chick-magnet, disgustingly confident attitude irked me at first. But it wasn't long before he grew on me and I really wanted him to win Whit over. Equally so I hated how much she was forcing herself to suffer needlessly. They are that young couple with sizzling sexual chemistry that uses it to keep from going any deeper at first. But when he wants more and she pushes him away I was surprised because of how directionless he seemed.

Peppered with smolder love scenes, angst thicker than molasses, and grounded just enough in reality to feel possible, HIDE ME, is a page turner that kept me up way past my bedtime. Having gone in not expecting to like it I was stunned when I finished the book and immediately thought to myself how flawless it had been. I was definitely in book-high because it has a few minor flaws but they were so little to me that I don't even feel like I need to note them in this review. I'll let other readers tell you what didn't work for them since I enjoyed it so much I went on a spree of adding every single Silver Strand book to my Want-To-Read shelf on Goodreads as soon as I marked HIDE ME finished.

If you're a fan of New Adult where there's a lot of physical intimacy between the hero and heroine countered with drama outside of the bedroom I have to recommend giving this book a try.

Notes: ARC received via NetGalley.

Oh that's awesome. I love when an author totally surprises me and makes me love them even when I'm trying hard not to. Nice!
