Review: Rush by Gina Gordon

Rush (White Lace #1) by Gina Gordon
Contemporary Romance, Erotic, New Adult
Ebook (292 pages, LOVESWEPT)
Everly Parker is about to graduate from law school, always busy, and can’t stop rushing through life. Her late grandmother left her a bucket list of meaningful, can’t-miss experiences, but she hasn’t completed a single one. Then searing-hot Max Levin bursts into her world. As a casting director for a porn production company, Max is loaded, cocky, and all wrong for Everly. Still, she’s tempted enough to cross the first item off her list: Go out with someone you’d never give the time of day.
Inheriting a porn empire isn’t every guy’s dream (well, actually, it probably is), but Max isn’t complaining. It’s just that until he meets Everly, he has no idea what he’s been missing. As the pressure mounts to take over the family business, Max can’t help wondering what would happen if he chose Everly instead. So far, his life has been a wild ride, but only Everly promises the greatest rush of all: love.

Fresh and fearless! (5 stars)

New Adult isn't usually my thing but Gina Gordon has cemented herself as an auto-buy author for me since I first discovered her. I honestly had big doubts about RUSH because the very idea of a romance blossoming in the heart of a porn empire seemed really unlikely. I should have known that if anyone could pull it off it would be Gina!

Max begins as the cocky, successful porn magnate you would expect and in contrast Everly is the expected ingenue foil. But once the story gets going the surface of each wears away to show that there's much more to each of them than what meets the eye. They're both stuck on a path they really don't love and their relationship with one another casts some light on what they might want instead.

Of course, one of the obvious factors in RUSH is the porn and no story featuring the industry as a backdrop would be complete without plenty of page scorching sex. If you're in the mood for something really lusty you will love what Everly and Max get up to. That said, there's more to their chemistry than just steamy encounters and if you love a romance with a soft gooey heart at its core this is one of those books that has it all.

The only major flaw I can see is that some readers who aren't comfortable with pornography or know much about the business might be turned off by some of it. If you don't think you can get past that element this is definitely one you'll want to skip as it is a key element of who Max is and the White Lace series will be porn-centric. Otherwise, it's a refreshing and different world to set a romance in and I loved Gordon's spin on it.
