Release Day: Entangled Teen June Titles

June may be almost over but that doesn’t mean the fun is over at Entangled Teen! We are excited to be announcing the release of two of our new titles, Mirror X by Karri Thompson and Going Down in Flames by Chris Cannon, which readers are already raving about! Plus you can pick up both Mirror X and Going Down in Flames on sale for just $.99 right now.

About Mirror X:

I was born more than a thousand years ago.

Put into a cryogenic tube at age seventeen, forgotten during a holocaust that decimated the world, I've finally been awakened to a more serene and peaceful future.

But things at the hospital are new and strange. And it’s starting to scare me.

Everyone is young. Everyone is banded and tracked. And everyone is keeping secrets.

The cute geneticist Michael Bennett might be the only good thing in this crazy new world where “life is precious” but no one seems free to live it. The problem is, I don’t think he’s being totally honest with me, either.

When I’m told only I can save the human race from extinction, it's clear my freeze didn’t avoid a dreadful fate. It only delayed the horror…

Author Bio:

Growing up in San Diego, California, Karri Thompson spent much of her years at the beach, reading novels, tanning, and listening to music. At SDSU, she earned a BA in English, MA in education, and her teaching credential. As a wife, mother, and high-school English teacher, she began writing novels, giving all of the compelling plots and unique characters in her head a home. Victorian literature rocks her socks, and when she’s not writing, jogging, going to concerts, or watching her son play football, she’s reading Dickens.

About Going Down in Flames:

If her love life is going down in flames, she might as well spark a revolution.
Finding out on your sixteenth birthday you're a shape-shifting dragon is tough to swallow. Being hauled off to an elite boarding school is enough to choke on.
Since Bryn is the only crossbreed at the Institute for Excellence, all eyes are on her, but it's a particular black dragon, Zavien, who catches her attention.
Zavien is tired of the Directorate's rules. Segregated clans, being told who to love, and close-minded leaders make freedom of choice almost impossible. The new girl with the striped hair is a breath of fresh air, and with Bryn's help, they may be able to change the rules.
At the Institute, old grudges, new crushes, and death threats are all part of a normal day for Bryn. She'll need to learn to control her dragon powers if she wants to make it through her first year at school. But even focusing on staying alive is difficult when you're falling for someone you can't have.

Book Blast: Primordial Dust by Sarah Daltry [+ giveaway!]

Synopsis

A princess, trained to behave. An assassin, betrothed to her. A thief, whose eyes she dreams of at night. A kingdom at war, torn apart by the suppression of magic and truth, as well as family secrets that threaten to destroy decades of peace.

Questions of loyalty, of morality, and of free will culminate in a fantasy novel about forging one’s own path and choosing one’s own destiny.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Sarah Daltry writes about the regular people who populate our lives. She’s written works in various genres – romance, erotica, fantasy, horror. Genre isn’t as important as telling a story about people and how their lives unfold. Sarah tends to focus on YA/NA characters but she’s been known to shake it up. Most of her stories are about relationships – romantic, familial, friendly – because love and empathy are the foundation of life. It doesn’t matter if the story is set in contemporary NY, historical Britain, or a fantasy world in the future – human beings are most interesting in the ways they interact with others. This is the principle behind all of Sarah’s stories.

Sarah has spent most of her life in school, from her BA and MA in English and writing to teaching both at the high school and college level. She also loves studying art history and really anything because learning is fun.

When Sarah isn’t writing, she tends to waste a lot of time checking Facebook for pictures of cats, shooting virtual zombies, and simply staring out the window.

IMO there IS a reading order to the continuity... (3 stars)

Let me tell you dear readers... Katee Robert knows how to write a love scene that will melt your ereader but I've got to admit that this is the second one of her Brazen reads this year that left me a little less-than-wowed outside of the bedroom. Since the only Wedding Dare continuity story I've read before this was Laura Kaye's prequel (and holy moly it's good) I think whoever said these could be read in any order needs to be shot. While I liked Regan and Brock a lot I was really confused most of the time.

With ten characters fleshing out the core heroes and heroines of the continuity it's tough to get them straight as it is but with Regan trying to go after someone who's not her hero... add in another layer of confusion. It'd work under other circumstances I think and the glimpses at the other characters rocked but I also felt like it didn't give me enough time to adjust. It was rush-rush-rush like any real wedding week can be and the interludes with Brock and Regan were super fun. Their banter back and forth was great, their love scenes were panty-melting... and yet I never quite got over her chasing after Logan and kind of using Brock as an aside.

So yeah, it's sexy and yeah you should read it... but I'm going to go out on a limb and recommend reading it after DARE TO RESIST, BAITING THE MAID OF HONOR, and FALLING FOR THE GROOMSMAN and before you read BEST MAN WITH BENEFITS. Hopefully reading it in order will make it a little less confusing and a lot more fun.

A Hidden UF Gem (4 stars)

When Cass Weatherfield's telekinetic gift that killed a classmate five years ago she ran away New Orleans and the family she left behind. Now calling San Francisco home she uses medication to suppress her powers until her childhood friend Mina goes missing and Mina's brother, Shane, comes to beg for her help. Cass doesn't want to use of the shadowmind abilities that should be a natural part of her but for Mina she's willing to try. But returning to New Orleans means reconnecting with Shane and the community of telepaths that had once been her family. With a dangerous mystery to solve and a heat wave of reawakened feelings Cass is going to have to overcome her fears to save the people she loves.

It took me a while to review TWISTED MIRACLES because to be quite honest I liked it but I also found it kind of mentally overwhelming. The shadowmind concept is pretty cool but also some heavy worldbuilding. I would definitely not call this light reading. It's very sexy and very intelligent, one that harcore urban fantasy lovers should check out. I really loved that there was an inter-racial relationship for a change, I wish more authors were writing them into the paranormal and supernatural fiction genres. Shane is my kind of hero and Cass, while frustrating, is not unlikable.

There is big potential for this series though I haven't found many others who've read it so it's a hidden gem in need of some word-of-mouth love. If you like urban fantasy by Stacia Kane, Jenn Bennett, Rachel Vincent, or Devon Monk I think you will really like this one too.

Weekend Reading [06/27-06/29] :: Building a Brand & Reading Exhaustion

Happy weekend readers! Because of my husband's schedule weekends always feel wonky to me. Thursdays are his 'Fridays' and Sundays are his 'Mondays'. Sometimes the only reason I can't get a weekend reading post up is because he makes plans for us on Friday. I always feel a little weird about it when I write these in case someone is sitting there thinking how the 'weekend' isn't their weekend.

So all week I've been working behind the scenes trying to get a feel for where I want to go with the blog beyond the blog itself. Something I've always—and I mean that in an ever-since-the-internet-was-something-I-used kind of always—wanted to do is establish a personal brand. It started with my message board days when I left the first one I ever joined to make my own. I've always known essentially what I want it to be as an umbrella but well, this blog kind of came along before I felt confident in establishing something broader. Cart before horse and all that.

You guys know it if you follow the blog actively or have had the opportunity to know me elsewhere. I'm a big ol' geek. Period. But not just about the pop culture kind of stuff that probably popped into your head at the word geek, I kind of geek about everything. It's my personality... if I'm into something I don't do it halfway. So for me to do just a makeup blog or a fashion blog or a cooking blog or a mommy blog would be just silly... ALL of those things are areas of interest to me. Easy to do right? Not so much. In researching how I want to remold my brand—with RhiReading as a sub-structure within it—I'm finding that it is really hard to not be very specific in your branding. You're either a sweepstakes blogger or a fitness blogger or a travel blogger. I guess that kind of makes sense for brands looking to work with someone who is an 'expert' in one area. Which has me wondering... are there areas you think you'd be an expert in or areas of interest beyond books that you enjoy reading blogs about?

This weekend I'm trying to finish up Katee Robert's QUEEN OF WANDS. I wanted to have it finished before release day but I've just been having a tough time reading for more than a few minutes at a time this week. What annoying problems do you have when you need to catch up on reading? I'm super close to having all of my reading that's for review done. I'm trying to limit what I accept for July because May and June have been exhausting!!! I wish I could claim I'm one of those bloggers who doesn't ever get sick of reading but I do. I really, really do. Sometimes I just want to take an entire week off of reading. There. I blasphemed. lol

Well, these bills on my desk aren't going to pay themselves, I have sink full of dishes calling my name, and I have more work to do for RhiAlistic on the post my above photo hints at. I think you guys will want to check it out once I finish it for the other blog. Leave a comment telling me what you're reading eh? Have a freaking awesome weekend! ♥ -- Rhi

Blog Tour: Queen of Wands by Katee Robert [+ giveaway!]

Top Jenny-isms

The heroine in my book, QUEEN OF WANDS, is a mouthy smartass woman. Jenny was so much fun to write, because she always has a witty comeback for any situation, and she never quite manages to keep her mouth shut, even when she should.

She’s great because she has this wonderful knack of getting under the skins of the other characters around her. I was going to put together a few Jenny-isms, but then I realized that she rarely uses the same one twice. So, instead, I picked her favorite ways to get under people’s skins.

The first, of course, is her big brother, Boone. When she wants to see the vein in his temple pulse, she switches to a sing-song voice and stretches his name into multiple syllables—“Bo-oo-one.”

Then there’s Ophelia. Jenny loves to call her “big sister” or some variation of it, because Ophelia’s determined not to marry Boone until she’s damn well good and ready. Jenny thinks her holding out is ridiculous, and loves to needle her about it whenever the opportunity presents itself.

And, of course, the hero of QUEEN OF WANDS isn’t exempt to Jenny’s personal brand of joy. Mac is brilliant and he gets under her skin just as much as she gets under everyone else’s. So she uses a variety of nicknames—princess, Sir Genius, cupcake—to put a shield of sorts between them. Or at least that’s the goal.

But Jenny’s totally met her match with this man, and no matter how many barriers she builds, he crashes right through them. It’s a fun show to write them circling each other, and I hope it will be as fun to read it!

Book Synopsis:

When Jenny O’Keirna gets a chance to slip her older brother’s leash, she jumps at it, even if it means playing babysitter to a too-smart-for-his-own-good inventor. She’s not expecting the attraction that sparks between them—or that Sanctify is just as desperate to take him for their own.
Never in Mac Flannery’s wildest dreams did he imagine Jenny would be the one sent for him. He sees beyond the mad grin the sister of Hansarda’s new king presents to the world, and that combination of vulnerability and wicked humor is a siren call he can’t resist.
But Sanctify is always three steps ahead of them. On the run—and unable to keep their hands off each other—Jenny and Mac devise an insane plan: kidnap the leader of Sanctify, and stop this war once and for all. Unfortunately, they’ve just played right into his hands…

Get your hands on QUEEN OF WANDS:

Author Bio:

Katee Robert learned to tell stories at her grandpa's knee. Her favorites then were the rather epic adventures of The Three Bears, but at age twelve she discovered romance novels and never looked back.

Though she dabbled in writing, life got in the way--as it often does--and she spent a few years traveling, living in both Philadelphia and Germany. In between traveling and raising her two wee ones, she had the crazy idea that she'd like to write a book and try to get published.

Her first novel was an epic fantasy that, God willing, will never see the light of day. From there, she dabbled in YA and horror, before finally finding speculative romance. Because, really, who wouldn't want to write entire books about the smoking-hot relationships between two people?

She now spends her time--when not lost in Far Reach worlds--playing imaginary games with her wee ones, writing, ogling men, and planning for the inevitable zombie apocalypse.

About the Author
Jane is a writer of authentic, passionate and emotional Historical and New Adult Romance, and a Kindle top 25 bestselling author.
She began her first historical novel at sixteen, but a life full of adversity derailed her as she lives with the restrictions of Ankylosing Spondylitis.
When she finally completed a novel it was because she was determined not to reach forty still saying, I want to write.
Now Jane is writing a Regency series and contemporary, new adult, stories and she is thrilled to be giving her characters life in others' imaginations at last.
You might think that Jane was inspired to write by Jane Austen, especially as she lives near Bath in the United Kingdom, but you would be wrong. Jane's favourite author is Anya Seton, and the book which drew her into the bliss of falling into historical imagination was 'Katherine' a story crafted from reality.
Jane has drawn on this inspiration to discover other real-life love stories, reading memoirs and letters to capture elements of the past, and she uses them to create more realistic plots.
'Basically I love history and I am sucker for a love story. I love the feeling of falling in love; it's wonderful being able to do it time and time again in fiction.'
Jane is also a Chartered Member of the Institute of Personnel and Development in the United Kingdom, and uses this specialist understanding of people to bring her characters to life.
