She's his best friend's sister, but he's ready to break all the rules...
Country veterinarian Celia Gamble is in trouble. A misunderstanding from her past is rearing its ugly head and the only person she can turn to is Jonah Clarke—her family’s lawyer and, as it turns out, her brother’s best friend and her childhood crush. She always wanted Jonah to see her as a bona fide woman, but as a woman who’s being blackmailed for seducing a married man? Not on her life.
Jonah is happy to help Little CeeCee Gamble, if only she’d come clean about why she’s being blackmailed. But with his best friend Zach’s wedding on the horizon, and Zach’s fashionista fiancée Desiree giving CeeCee a makeover, the little duckling Jonah remembers is turning into a definite swan. And the unwritten law on sisters is clear—hands off. Jonah must resist or lose the only true family he’s ever known.Author Site: website
Friends make the best family... (4 stars)
If you loved HIS RELUCTANT RANCHER you've probably been eager to see Zach's little sister CeeCee get her story and if you've been following the series you've been waiting to see who could tame Jonah Clarke. Well, it's time these two shake off everyone's notions of who they are and get together.
While CeeCee crushed on Jonah when she was a kid, he was stuck in that awkward position as her brother's best-friend and sworn protector of her. Kinda hard to shake off the limitations imposed by loyalty to your friend when his sister is all grown up. Making matters more complicated CeeCee is being blackmailed and threatened in ways that could hurt her family's business if she doesn't work things out quick. She needs Jonah's help handling the legal side but their attraction is ruffling feathers when she's got a lot to handle already.
This one is for all of us gals who have ever found ourselves being pushed to don heels instead of sneakers or a top over a t-shirt. I couldn't help but find CeeCee relatable as her sister-in-law-to-be gave her a gradual makeover. It was awesome that Jonah liked her in her silly veterinarian-themed t-shirts and yet found the subtle makeover nice too. It was a little rough seeing my favorite hero of the series being so ornery to his little sister and Jonah but kind of sweet too. Their HEA is hard won and very satisfying. If you love small town romances this one felt the most community oriented to me.
While it wasn't quite as special in plot to me as the first two stories in the series, RESISTING THE RANCHER, was still really good. I love that animals continue to be such an important underlying factor in this series and I really think readers who enjoy sweet romances set in tight-knit communities will enjoy this one!
