Cover Reveal: THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD by Randi Black

Title: The Light of the World
Author: Randi Black
Genre: New Adult Contemporary Romance 18+
Publication Date: June 27, 2014
Cover Designer: Regina ~ Mae I Design
Event Organized By: Literati Author Services, Inc.

It was 1995 in the Southern California wasteland.

I was barely legal and far from innocent. I loved The Gun Club more than I loved Walter, my high school sweetheart.  He was the only person who knew why I stopped singing and playing guitar after what happened to me when I was 16.  But even an engagement ring couldn’t save us after what he did to me that one afternoon.

I used to worry that college would come between us, but I never thought it would happen on move-in day.

That was the day I met Franz : a tall, handsome 23-year-old ex-jock from Germany.  He was so not my type, but the more I got to know him, the more I knew he was the right guy for me.  And after Walter betrayed me for the last time, it was time for me to break up with him and be with Franz for good.  I never thought he’d be a safe place for me to explore my darkest sexual fantasies.  Nor that he’d be a kindred spirit who knew exactly what it felt like when someone ridiculed your musical aspirations.

We gonna start playing music together and be who we were meant to be.  Nothing and no one was gonna stop us.

Not even Walter.

Note: This is the standalone sequel to Miss World, which was self-published in 2011, and takes place a month later.

Jennifer Chance and Loveswept are thrilled to share the hot cover and first-look teaser of FAKE IT, the second book in the Rule Breakers series published by Loveswept!

From Jenn: “This cover is perfect for Jake--right down to the biker-inspired smoky blue flame background behind the title. It really shows that Jake and Anna's adventure will be quite a ride!”

Read on for more about FAKE IT and a super sexy teaser!

Jennifer Chance
Published by Loveswept
July 1, 2014
ISBN: 978-0-553-39228-9

As her sizzling new series continues, Jennifer Chance sparks some serious combustion between a sexy biker and a corporate go-getter who’s ready to let her hair down.

New grad Anna Richardson works hard—so hard that she’s given up having a romantic life. Anna has even convinced her friends that she’s dating an amazing guy—who they’ve simply never met. But now Anna has a wedding to attend and needs to produce the hottie she’s been lying about for the past six months. Enter Jake Flynn, her infuriating, motorcycle-riding, jaw-droppingly gorgeous neighbor, who’s more than willing to fake it for a weekend. In fact, Jake won’t be satisfied until things get real.

Though Jake is only playing the role of adoring boyfriend, he’s starting to feel the heat, and judging by Anna’s sweet blush, so is she. Letting chemistry this intense go to waste would be a real shame. Soon, though, the thin line between fantasy and reality fades. Jake may not be what every buttoned-up fast-tracker wants, but he’s sure as hell what Anna needs. And if she takes a ride with him, their adventure never has to end.

“Jake, the wedding would completely suck for you,” Anna protested. “My ex is a nightmare and you would hate all of my friends. You would think the whole thing is ridiculous—because it is.” He just watched her, maddeningly, his smile curving as she tried to sputter out her refusals. “You don’t want to do this. Trust me.”
“I just said I did.”
“But . . . you can’t . . . you wouldn’t . . .” Anna stopped, flustered. What was happening here? Was she actually turning down a viable date? “There’s so much you would have to memorize about Dave. There’s no way you’re going to want to do that.”

Not your mama's angels... (4 stars)

Isadora O'Donnell lost her parents several years ago and while she has a trust fun and god parents who've been good to her she doesn't exactly see eye-to-eye with them on her taste in men. She has a huge crush on Zerach, her boss known for his playboy lifestyle. But if marrying Jake, the childhood friend that grew up to be a cad, is the only way to help her god parents avoid bankruptcy she's willing to give it a shot. As an archangel, Zerach recognizes Dora's innocence and senses that something is off about the man she's considering marrying. Yet if he's going to protect her that means letting her closer to him and for an angel that's a life altering thing.

Angel and demon mythologies in paranormal romance can be a bit hit-and-miss with me. They're a challenge to do with any uniqueness and rarely do angels tread that perfect line between human and godly. Jane's archangels were surprisingly well developed with both endearingly human qualities and things that kept them just a little otherworldly. I wasn't too keen on Dora at first but once I saw she had backbone I liked her a lot. Together they have sparkling chemistry and the steamy side of the storyline was gradual and quite sensual which made the build-up toward her revealing her scars very good.

I'm often a big fan of secondary characters and the other archangels were no exception. With the addition of another female character, Asta, whom I really liked it, there are hints at what the next series entry's couple will be. While this was definitely a romance the demon plot wasn't so bogged down in those elements that it lacked a sense of urgency and adventure either.

Very engrossing, with a solid world building that should expand well in further installments I really liked TAA which I was actually surprised on since I wasn't too big on another angel story. I think those who've had a track record with them like mine might find it a nice change of pace while those who love angel romances will like the new elements brought to the table.

Blog Tour: Q & A with Stop Dragon my Heart Around author Susannah Scott [+ giveaway!]

Dear readers, There's something you may not know about me... I ♥♥♥ dragons. I don't talk about my parents a lot but one thing I share with my father is his love of the winged and scaled beasts known for their love of treasure and fiery breath. So today, in honor of Leo—my new favorite dragon—I'm wearing the dragon earrings my daddy gave me several years back. ☻

As part of this tour I was only supposed to pick one excerpt from a group. Do you know how hard that is with a book I loved this much? AUGH!!! Ultimately, I settled on the one I suggested at the Must Love Dragons Street Team headquarters because this story has lots of sexy and actiony scenes but this funny one also gives you a good look at Leo.

I am so excited to have Susannah here today as the first stop on her tour! We hit it off when LUCK OF THE DRAGON came out and I am loving getting to help you readers find her. Hope you enjoy the awesome Q & A we did and the excerpt I picked. Enjoy! -- Rhi

Hi Rhianna!

Thank you so much for having me on. You've been with me from the beginning-I think you're the one who told my to get my a** in gear and get a Street Team! And your blog was one of the first ones I ever visited. I'm so honored to be returning.

RR: There's a serious dearth of Native American heroes and heroines in romance today. With so many tribes and each tribe having differences in its culture what challenges did you come across in your research and in the process of giving Tee authenticity within the bounds of fiction?

SS: You are such a word impresser; I just had to look up dearth! I absolutely agree, there was a serious lack of information about any cultural or ceremonial activities in the Native American community. Part of that is their ceremonies are sacred and they don't want them getting "hijacked."

I was so lucky to find a Native American editor who was willing to do a factual pass for me. I got so many things wrong, I am immensely grateful to her for straightening me out. For example, did you know that tribal names like, Eagles Feathers, are private and only used among families and close friends? It was really important to me to be accurate and culturally sensitive, especially since there is such a lack of modern Native American characters.

RR: As those who've read my review will note, I LOVE Tee! She's such a well-rounded character and she resonated with me on a personal level because of our many similarities. (Tall girls unite!) One of the things I loved that just didn't fit into my review is that she has strong female friendships. It seems common in current pop culture that if there are three single women together in a storyline they're in competition for something, oft times the hero. The only conflict the women of SDmHA have is that Jane and Mei are dragons and have kept that a secret. Beyond the obvious-that Jane and Mei will get their own heroes-why was it important to you to establish these women as good friends?

SS: Oh what a great question! I have been blessed with great girlfriends in my life and I just can't imagine doing something as important as falling in love, or thinking about having sex with a hot dude for the first time, without riffing about it with my girls!

Plus, Jane and Mei and Tee together do such a great job of showing the reader who they are. I love the scene where they are eating lunch, and Mei is having raw sushi, Jane a proper chicken salad, and Tee fried chicken and mash potatoes. Friends really bring out the truth of who we are in life, and in fiction.

RR: Speaking of Jane and Mei... are you ready to do the big reveal on who the next book will be about?

A RhiReading recommended MUST READ if you love romance! (5 stars)

Dragons have been a favorite mythical creature of mine since I was a little. But they seem to be under utilized (though they're growing in popularity) in paranormal romance. When LUCK OF THE DRAGON came along I was pretty wary of the concept at first glance but then I read it and realized just how genius it is. This series is the perfect modern romance world to bring in dragons and STOP DRAGON MY HEART AROUND ups the ante.

First, let's address the boss-and-employee trope. I tend to hate this one unless the boss is a woman but Tee does all of the chasing in this one! She is one of my favorite heroines I have read. EVER. She's smart, thoughtful, driven, ambitious, spiritual, a good friend, generous, funny, and tall... okay, so that last one is just something I loved on a personal level because as a tall woman I get tired of always reading about how 'petite' every heroine is. But most of all I loved that she's Native American! Something I've been begging Entangled's imprints for more of are non-white heroes and heroines. One of my closest friends is Native American and has taught me so much about her family, her tribe, and their culture that it was refreshing to see Scott do the same with Tee.

Leo, in contrast, is a dragon shifter who has fallen in love with Tee and because she hasn't shown his mark knows she's not the mate destined for him. It was killing me to see him struggle with how deeply he loved her and the lengths he was going to because of it. He's much the strong and quiet type so the more aggressive approach Tee has with him makes for some page burning sexual tension. Let's just say I'll never look at an elevator the same way again. ;)

SDMHA was impossible to put down. Between the relationship between Leo and Tee, the trouble with her tribe, and the involvement of the other dragons in various parts of the story I was swept away to Las Vegas and didn't want to come home. Sensual and funny, action-packed and tear-inducing this book filled me up and rang me out. One of the most enjoyable category romances—I'd dare say romances, period—I've read and I am in agony waiting for the next installment. If you want to read something that can both move you to tears and make you snicker, drop your jaw and have you fanning yourself you HAVE to read this one and the good news is that it can stand alone enough you can read it first and then go back to LOTD. Trust me. BUY THIS BOOK. You are going to LOVE it.

Review: Don't Blackmail the Vampire by Tiffany Allee

Don't Blackmail the Vampire (Sons of Kane #2) by Tiffany Allee
Paranormal Romance, Category Romance, Vampires
Ebook $2.99 (156 pages, COVET)
Rachel Davis will do anything to get her sister out of a bad relationship with her fiancé. Even if it involves a few fibs, a little breaking-and-entering, and blackmailing the fiancé's potential boss, Charles, for his help. So what if the handsome Charles happens to be a vampire?
Charles Wright has found the perfect way to trap the man threatening his brother's wife: cozy up to him, get invited along on the skiing trip, and then search for incriminating evidence. How much better that audacious but gorgeous Rachel is just as eager to nail the bastard. As far as he's concerned, there's nothing wrong with a little blackmail between two consenting adults. A perfect beach read with bite! (4 stars)

Are you in need of a vacation? Well look no further than the Sons of Kane series. While the first book involved a cruise and a plot that just didn't win me over, DON'T BLACKMAIL THE VAMPIRE takes readers on a skiing trip and managed to pull me in much more.

The blurb does a very good job of giving you the plot. Charles is the brother of Noah from DON'T BITE THE BRIDESMAID and with someone sending threatening messages to Alice he's trying to find out who's sending them. Everyone thinks it's Brent, Alice's ex, who happens to now be involved with her former friend. That former friend is Rachel's sister and Rachel really doesn't like or trust Brent. So she finds a way to blackmail Charles into helping her break the pair up and since it will help Charles figure out if Brent is the stalker threatening Alice it's a win-win scenario.

Of course, this means lots of shenanigans to convince Rachel's sister Brent is a cad and she and Charles wind up giving into their attraction. The build-up is nice and the tension is well spread making it quite satisfying when they finally cave to their chemistry. I think most readers will really enjoy the romance but I actually found the mystery of whom was behind the threats to be the most entertaining part. I was very engrossed in it and while I felt a little swindled on the outcome it will please DBTB fans who need to know Alice is safe.

I'd dare say that anyone who likes contemporary romances that has a hard time finding paranormals they like will really enjoy DBTV. The overall story could easily have the vampire element removed and still be an enjoyable story. I did really dislike Rachel's sister, to the point I fantasized about punching her through my ereader screen, but other than that it was the perfect sort of light paranormal romance read that's perfect for a beach read.

A Sexy Read-in-One-Sitting Romp (3 stars)

Man, I hate giving an author I usually like a less-than-stellar review but it happens sometimes that I don't like it, no matter how awesomesauce the writer (and the work for that matter) is.

HIS TO KEEP has all the elements I'd want in the bones of a good story, a hot hero, a heroine that I like, great sexual chemistry, and a setting with secondary characters that round it out. But my problem was just that, HTK was sexy—Robert has made closets my favorite get-busy spot thanks to her books—but really spare otherwise. At novella length I felt like there was plenty of steamy connection between the characters but I never really felt like enough background was established to make an emotional relationship feel authentic.

Aaron just wasn't fleshed out much as a character beyond his job and his crush on Marcy. I felt like I didn't know him enough to root for him as Marcy's hero. In contrast, I really liked Marcy. I have a soft spot for single parent heroines and heroes because I understand the extra element of conflict that adds to any romantic relationship these characters get involved in. I really, really wanted to enjoy HTK beyond the love scenes but as a whole I couldn't in honesty give it more than a 'just okay' rating.

If you're more interested in the physical chemistry of the characters let me tell you... these two combust and it is gooooood. But if you want an equal emotional connection to result you may not feel it with this story. I wouldn't go so far as to say skip it, just go in knowing it's short and sexy more than sweet and sexy.

A helpful prequel nibble... (4 stars)

Fantasy romance is a genre that just doesn't get a lot of buzz but remains one of my favorites. When I started Altenburg's Demon Outlaws series I was in awe at how cool the world she's built is. Technically it's the future and post-post-apocalyptic in a sense but the addition of demons and goddesses makes it fantasy with a slightly western vibe. Yeah, it sounds complicated but if you enjoy excellent world building it's a great series to dive into. But I've always wanted to know more about the beginnings of the world, specifically the Demon Lord and his lover, which Altenburg finally delivers a taste of in THE DEMON LORD.

If you've previously read the series and been left with the same curiosity I had in regards to it's roots TDL is worth a read. It's admittedly really short and doesn't cover much beyond the set-up of Allia and The Demon Lord as lovers but gives hints about characters, Desire and Mamna, who play key roles later. This is a good starting point for those who haven't begun the series, but I'd definitely suggest reading it back to back with THE DEMON'S DAUGHTER for full effect.

Because it's such a tiny novella there just isn't much more to tell you. It's sensual and interesting but over so quickly!

Weekend Reading [04/25-04/27] :: Honey Honey Honey

Why is everyone going out of town this weekend? It's so weird. Literally, three out of four people I spoke to today had travel plans. It's not a holiday. Weeeeird.

As for myself guess what I'm NOT doing this weekend? You guessed it... going out of town. Nope. My ass is planted firmly home. Even our weekly Magic: The Gathering group bailed on us. So I'll be getting groceries and cleaning house. Probably trying to write the reviews I need ready for the frenzy of releases happening Monday. And reading the one book I haven't started yet that comes out then too. Because I'm slower than honey on snow. Yes, I have honey on the brain.

Why honey? I blame Amazon. I've been posting links like mad from all the great deals this week so at one point it recommended the above featured Pure Honey Mead. I didn't think much at first until I realized it's from here in Montana AND it has a Viking on it. I made it my mission to look for some the next time I was out near the fancy wine shop on the far side of town (I'm never over there) but my sweet man candy found one for me while he was out last night. I almost don't want to drink it it's so pretty. lol

So perhaps I'll sip honey wine as I dive into the (bitter)sweetness that is NIGHT CHILD. What reads do you have set aside for the weekend eh?

Before I run off and attempt that thing called grocery shopping let me leave you with one quite off-topic but no less fun item to share!

I want you guys to check out my friend and her GF's art haul from ECCC! I got to sneak peek the haul and I pretty much had to convince myself it was wrong to ditch the hubs and kiddos so I could go live with Emily and Mallory and their art collection.

There are two videos so be sure and check them both out. And give them some subscription love because they're both awesomesauce.

Have a great weekend guys and be sure to comment what you are reading or want to read this weekend... ♥ -- Rhi

Nikolai Itzov never anticipated battling the urge to kiss the offspring of his father’s murderer. As a Slayer, an elite law enforcer descended from Azrael himself, his orders from the Underveil General are clear: Kill her or die.
Nikolai and Elena find themselves in a life and death battle to stop a plot designed to lift the Underveil and enslave humans. With her analytical mind and his centuries of training, they might be able to foil the plot with their lives and maybe their hearts intact. But in order to succeed, he must help her become the very thing he hates the most: an Undead.

Book Title: Resisting the Rancher
Series: Three River Ranch #4
Author: Roxanne Snopek
Release Date: 4/14/14
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Book Synopsis:
Country veterinarian Celia Gamble is in trouble. A misunderstanding from her past is rearing its ugly head and the only person she can turn to is Jonah Clarke—her family’s lawyer and, as it turns out, her brother Zach’s best friend and her childhood crush. She always wanted Jonah to see her as a bona fide woman, but as a woman who’s being wrongfully blackmailed for seducing a married man? Not on her life.
Jonah is happy to help little CeeCee Gamble, if only she’d come clean about why she’s being blackmailed. But with Zach’s wedding on the horizon and Zach’s fashionista fiancée Desiree giving CeeCee a makeover, the little duckling Jonah remembers is turning into a definite swan. And the unwritten law on sisters is clear—hands off. Jonah must resist Celia or lose the only true family he’s ever known.

Air conditioner maintenance.)

One summer, she wrote video game dialogue and narrative for Silicon Sisters Interactive, a project that combined her two favourite genres – mystery and romance – with the world of casual gaming.

Guest Post: GONE WITH THE WOLF author Kristin Miller [+ 99¢ sale!!!]

Dear readers, One of my favorite parts of this job is discovering great authors and helping you connect with them too. Since the re-launch of Entangled Publishing's COVET imprint I have read every single title. But there's one I didn't write a review for—I was just so busy with life and books it slipped onto the backburner, whoops!—and I've been hoping to re-read it so I can remedy that. It happens to be Kristin Miller's second Seattle Wolf Pack story and it is such a good series. But then... Kristin writes lots of paranormal so I asked her to drop by today and tells us why it's a genre she can't stop writing. Enjoy! -- Rhi

P.S. -- GONE WITH THE WOLF is only 99¢ until May 3rd so be sure and grab it NOW! It's one of my favorites if you can't tell by my review.

Why I Love Writing Paranormal

First, I have to thank RhiReading for having me on the blog today! I’m so excited to be here talking about paranormal creatures and why I love writing them!

I’ve written dark and sexy vampires and shape-shifters in my Vampires of Crimson Bay Trilogy, powerful dragons and mystical mermaids in my Isle of Feralon Novellas, and dominant werewolves in my Seattle Wolf Pack Series. There are definitely things I love about each of the paranormal creatures I’ve written.
