Wishes for a safe & happy NYE!

My dearest Rhireaders, your presence in my world is a blessing I am eternally grateful for. As the year has come to a close I've been reflecting on the past year and how much good stuff has been happening even though there were some really tough times in my life. Thank you for being a source of joy and laughter and enthusiasm in 2014!

While I love you all I decided that the best way I could possibly ring in the new year was with a 48 hour digital detox. No sweating my email inbox, no sweating comments and replying to comments, no stressing out about social media. Wish me luck (lol) and I'll see you on the 2nd! -- Rhi

5 Bookish Things to Try in the New Year

The end of the year is almost here dearest Rhireaders and I've been reflecting more on what I want to do with next year—as a reader/blogger—than what I've accomplished this year, that's just kinda how I roll.

So instead of posting resolutions or some rehash of shit I already talked about this year I thought I'd post a list of things I'd like to do as a reader this year and encourage you guys to think about trying some new things too.
  1. Start a Book Club -- a local one, still undecided how I want to approach this
  2. Craft With Books -- to get rid of some ARCs of books I didn't enjoy with upcycling
  3. Organize an Event -- a blogger-reader event of some kind
  4. Graphic Novel Adaptations -- read more graphic novel adaptations of books
  5. Book Inspired Creativity -- I was inspired by something this year and can't divulge yet how I wanna do this but I'm kinda geeking on it
Bonus thing to try: Storium -- I need to get back to writing daily after years of only blog related writing and I am soooooo rusty, this might be how I do it.

But after four years of marriage, Katherine still knows little of what goes on in his heart. And she has yet to bear him an heir. Mia Marlowe learned much of what she knows about storytelling from singing. A classically trained soprano, she devised back stories to prepare for operatic roles. Since she’s worn a real corset, and had to sing high C’s in one, she empathizes with the trials of her fictional heroines. But in Mia’s stories, they don’t die in a Parisian garret. They get to live and keep the hero! Mia loves history, art, music and travel. Especially travel. Good thing, since she’s lived in 9 different states and is embarrassed to admit she’s lost track of how many times she’s been to Europe. She regards her frequent moves as vacations on which she drags along all her stuff. Currently, she and her DH make their home in New England.

Released Nov 1st, 2014

The sweetest gift is the hardest to unwrap…

But for Victoria, it’s an opportunity to indulge in a passionate affair—and the handsome inventor she meets at the Christmas Eve masquerade ball may be just the man for the job…

Lewis Noble is the cousin of London’s famed Redcake sisters, so it almost stands to reason that he’s just as irresistible as one of their sugar-iced pastries. Lewis catches the eye of every woman at the party—but Victoria is the only one who catches his. Top 10: Books I’m looking forward to in 2015

Because I read so many genres and am kind of a weirdo I decided not to number this list because it might give the wrong impression I am anticipating any of them more than the others and really, I'm not. I'm just really excited about these books coming out next year!

• Broken Shadows (The Shadowminds Book 3) by A.J. Larrieu (January)

Because I love the unique mythology of this urban fantasy series and that it has non-white characters and interracial couplings.

 • Idol of Bone (Looking Glass Gods) by Jane Kindred (February)

Jane is just one of those authors who I should binge read and this one really caught my eye.

• Heir to the Jedi: Star Wars by Kevin Hearne (March)

I'm a Star Wars nerd. I'm a huge Kevin Hearne fan. 'Nuff said.

• Rat Queens Volume 2 (March)

Because I have this pre-ordered and the list deserved a little graphic novel touch.

• Rush by Gina Gordon (May)

One of two titles of Gina's I hope come out in the first half of 2015, she is one of my favorite authors and her teases for this book in our little street team group make this a hard wait.

• The Shadow Revolution: Crown & Key By Clay & Susan Griffith (June)

"A thrilling new Victorian-era urban fantasy for fans of Kevin Hearne’s Iron Druid Chronicles, the Showtime series Penny Dreadful, and the Sherlock Holmes movies featuring Robert Downey, Jr." -- could they pack any more things I'd love put together into one book? Plus, this is 3 books releasing over two months!!!
• Hard As Steel: A Hard Ink/Raven Riders Crossover (September)

Another one I pre-ordered right away, I'd been begging Laura for a Raven Riders series and she's kicking it off here.

• The next Firebird trilogy book from Claudia Gray (November)

This is one of those times I kinda wanna poke the author on, "Are you writing? You should be writing. Any chance this will be early?" lol

• Desires of the Soul by Gina L. Maxwell (Unknown 2015)

I think Gina will be self-publishing this one. It was originally pitched to a publisher I love that turned it down or wanted changes or something so I feel like I've been waiting forever. Pretty sure this will have to come out next year at some point. lol

My girl Katee has been writing her ass off. I want to be her when I grow up. She has so much being published in 2015 I couldn't not just list al of her books.

With warmest wishes from my home to yours...

I'm taking the day off from the blog to cook a mighty fine feast for the family, unwrap the presents that I bought for myself (*giggle* yes, it was one of those years for us), and enjoy the Doctor Who Christmas Special. I hope you are sharing in special festivities of your own if it's a holiday you celebrate and if not, I hope that whatever festivities (or lack thereof) you're engaging in are joyous. And since I know all of you were very naughty this year I hope you can turn coal into diamonds! ♥ -- Rhi

Top 10: Best Book Boyfriends of 2014

Ahhh Book Boyfriends... that dirty little secret... well, okay the reason they're my dirty little secret is because I tend to not think of them as Book Boyfriends until someone points them out that way. I'm a weirdo and I feel guilty digging some other girl's man, even if they're both fictional. So don't tell any of these guys' ladies on me okay? ;)

10. Tristan from Butterman (Time) Travel, Inc. by PK Hrezo
9. Cole from Dead Over Heels by Alison Kemper
8. Mac from  Queen of Wands by Katee Robert
7. Josh from The Geek Billionaire Makeover by Theresa Myers
6. X from E-Day by D.T. Dyllin
5. Easy from Hard to Hold On To by Laura Kaye
4. Mason from  Then & Now by Brooke Moss
3. Leo from Stop Dragon My Heart Around by Susannah Scott
2. [SPOILER ALERT] Paul from A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray
1. Finn from  Recipe For Seduction by Gina Gordon

Geeks, dragons, time travelers, zombie fighters, and even a chef round out my choices for 2014.

Top 10: Best New-to-Me Authors of 2014

I debated going with a Bad-ass heroines list because I love kick-butt females, but I felt like a few of the characters I wanted to list just wouldn't fit that category really. Instead, I'm highlighting authors whom I discovered for the first time this year. While many were through their publisher, I found some because of other bloggers and another through a blog hop! Never discount the blog hop as a great way to find new readers. So please check out these 10 authors who I read in 2014 who were new-to-me who might be new-to-you too.

Top 10: Best Book Covers of 2014

I totally cheated for this post because ya know what? I went through my list of read books that were 2014 releases and a lot of the covers didn't IMHO deserve a Best Cover award. I'll admit to thinking the romance genre pretty much have the most boring covers ever. Oooh look another man-tittie woopedy-doo. *sigh* The Young Adult genre tends to really kick butt with gorgeous covers though.

Of these, I've only read the two but I have three of the others in either hardback or audio and the rest are on my wishlist. They're all books that first earned my interest thanks to beautiful cover art and then earned either a read/purchase/wishlisting thanks to their blurb.

You might notice a bit of a theme here. I like people on covers and in particular covers displaying motion whether it's hair blowing or the way a body is curved in movement. Did I pick one of your favorites?
