Book Blitz: Driven by Eve Kenin [+ giveaway!]

In the harsh Northern Waste where human life is worth little, ice trucker Raina Bowen has learned to keep her eyes open and her knife close at hand. She’s spent her life on the run, one step ahead of the megalomaniac who hunts her. All she wants is to stay out of trouble and haul her load of grain to Gladow Station—but trouble finds her in the form of a sexy stranger called Wizard. He has the trucking pass she needs, and she has to drag him out of a brawl with the very people she’s trying to hide from in order to get it. She may have rescued him, but Raina’s not foolish enough to see Wizard as anything close to helpless. He’s hard and honed and full of secrets—secrets that may destroy them both. As they race across the Waste, trying to outrun rival truckers, ice pirates, and the powerful man bent on their destruction, Raina’s forced to admit that trouble’s found her. And this time, there’s nowhere left to run.

Turning his head, he glanced over his shoulder, his silky black hair falling forward to caress the hard line of his jaw. There were marcasite beads woven through a long braid behind his right ear, and they caught the light, glittering as he moved.
“I agreed to meet Bowen with the license. No one mentioned a girl.”
A girl. She gritted her teeth. Yanking open a cupboard door, she then shoved the microdisks inside. “I’m Bowen. Raina Bowen.”
“Yes.” He stared at her a moment too long, then slowly paced to the opposite side of the small space.
Yes? What was that supposed to mean?
“I was supposed to meet Sam Bowen.” He tapped the wall, opened and closed a cupboard. “A well appointed rig. Hydrogen power? Fuel cell?”
Raina nodded, then realized he wasn’t looking at her. “Yeah. With solar panels on the roof of the cab along with a hydroponics grow-tube.” She paused. “Whoever you were expecting to meet, you were still late.”

Review: One Hot Knight by Christy Gissendaner

One Hot Knight by Christy Gissendaner
Paranormal Romance, Category Romance, Magic
Ebook $2.99 (149 pages, COVET)
Stupid curse!
Yves Sucat was a Crusader trapped in a canine body…until a beautiful twenty-first century dog groomer offered the missing link to break his spell. But Regina Patterson was no fluffy-headed female who would instantly melt at Yves' silvery seduction. The more time he spent with the tender-hearted blonde, the less he was able to keep his paws—hands!—off of her.
Regina was much more comfortable with dogs than men, and the stunningly handsome – stunningly male – knight who now shared her apartment was no exception. She’d hoped to find a man as loyal as the pooches she pampered day after day, but would Yves’s broken curse end with her own broken heart?

Author Site: christygissendaner.webs.com

She's got a curse of puppy love... (3 stars)

When Regina Patterson found a big St. Bernard in the park and brought him to her grooming shop in hopes of finding his owner she had no idea what she was getting herself into. When her new doggy friend digs up a bejeweled collar that transforms him into a man she finds out that he was, Yves Sucat, a Crusader who has spent the past 900 years cursed to live as a dog. But the collar's power is only temporary and Yves needs her help to break his curse.

Readers who are dog lovers are sure to enjoy ONE HOT KNIGHT. Especially those who love a goofy, humorous paranormal romance in the vein of Molly Harper or Michele Bardsley. While I often enjoy a funny PNR there was just something about this one that went past funny and into cheesy territory for me, not unenjoyable as a whole, just a little cringe-inducing at times. If you're great at suspending disbelief and don't have a habit of poking holes in a plot you're sure to love ONE HOT KNIGHT. That said, the opening scene really had me head-scratching with its abruptness. There's never an explanation of why Regina was in the park and decided to take a strange dog to her grooming shop (as a dog owner I'd have been worried the dog would possibly attack my paying clients' pets so the logic of it all—or the lack thereof—bugged me).

My issues with those factors aside, ONE HOT KNIGHT, manages to be sweet and sexy. Yves' personality is amusing as he adjusts to modern life and social differences that he's observed but not experienced as a man. Regina is a solid heroine with a good heart and a likable determination that keeps Yves from walking all over her. They made a good match and though there wasn't much conflict to keep them from a HEA aside from the curse the resolution was still quite satisfying.

A fun, quick read when you need a humorous pick-me-up after a long day or a dark read.

Review: Lions, Tigers, and Sexy Bears Oh My! by Candace Havens

Lions, Tigers, and Sexy Bears Oh My! by Candace Havens
Paranormal Romance, Category Romance, Shapeshifters
Ebook $2.99 (129 pages, COVET)
A Montana town where no one is who they seem...
Everything about runaway heiress Ainsley McLeon screamed trouble—from her luscious midnight locks to her Louboutin-clad toes. Yet sexy, stoic bar owner Luc couldn’t deny the instant connection he felt to the tempting stranger…or the long-dead feelings she evoked. She could work in his pub until her truck was fixed but after that she had to leave town for good.
Ainsley traveled with her own emotional baggage and there was no way she'd fall for the bear-tempered Luc...no matter how many passionate nights she spent in his bed or how safe she felt in his muscular arms. Can these two opposites find love in the middle of a blizzard, or will Luc's darker side and Ainsley's past catch up with them?

Author Site: website

Move over Pooh and Tigger... (4 stars)

When on-the-lam, endangered heiress Ainsley McLeon put herself on Montana's winter roads she certainly didn't expect to wreck her vehicle in an attempt to avoid hitting a tiger. Unable to safely touch her wealth without giving away her location to whoever is trying to murder her and with nowhere to go she begs a job at the local watering hole. But Luc has no interest in hiring a human to sling drinks to his patrons because in this Montana town the residents all have one thing in common... an furry form at the full moon.

Ainsley, however, won't take no for an answer and her tough-as-nails personality coupled with a desire to find a way out of the mess she's in win Luc over. It's only a matter of time before she discovers that the gruff bar owner with a knack for cookery is more than a big ol' teddy bear whom she can't hide her danger from.

When I didn't care for Havens' previous entry to the Covet imprint I was a little worried I'd not like this one either. But it proved to be surprisingly fun. There's a cheesy factor with the heiress on the run from her potentially murderous family and the generic Montana town but in this case it works. As the blogosphere's resident Montanan PNR geek I was hoping for something a less flat in regards to the town and the shifters who called it home but Luc and Ainsley are great characters and their romance was juicy.

I didn't think I was going to like Luc but Havens worked the werebear personality fabulously. I don't often like the hero more than the heroine but I loved Luc. He's gruff at times and yet a teddy bear at others. That Ainsley is no push-over really pleased me! Too often you have a strong male in paranormals that just bulldozes the female and these two meet one another so well. They're a great match and the chemistry between them makes this a terrific read. I highly recommend it for shifter romance fans looking for a quick read.

Stop dragon your feet and buy this one! (5 stars)

A sassy gemologist set on a path of thievery to save her brother who's in trouble with the mob . A shape-shifting dragon trying to build a sanctuary disguised as a luxury casino for his dwindling race in the heart of Vegas. These are the things a decadently delightful category romance with paranormal elements is made of. If you've ever wanted to read a wickedly good paranormal romance set against the backdrop of Sin City look no further.

I can admit I never quite liked Alec because I felt like he was pretty closed off but Lucy makes up for his mystery by being a heroine you can get behind. Lucy is one tough cookie in a really rotten situation. Anyone who has a sibling that's good at getting themselves into trouble and then needing rescue will really want to see if she can pull it off. But it's hard stealing from someone who you're developing feelings for and Lucy's not happy that she's stuck bailing her brother out yet again.

While LUCK OF THE DRAGON is category length there's a lot of story packed in and I was really excited by the world that Scott has built for the series. The secondary characters pepper the plot with just enough face time to make you want more and the villain is dastardly enough to make escaping his grasp satisfying.

This is just one of those perfect reads for a weekend in if you love a glitzy setting, intense danger, scorching love scenes, and a fated mates romance that'll leave you craving more!

Book Blitz: Knight Blindness by Chris Karlsen [+giveaways!]

Ready for battle, Medieval English knight, Stephen Palmer, charges into the French enemy’s cavalry line. Heeding a warning given months before, he hesitates as he comes face-to-face with the knight in the warning. Struck down in the year 1356, he finds himself landing in the year 2013. Grievously wounded, he’s taken to a nearby hospital. Confused by the new world surrounding him, he attempts to convince the staff he’s from another time, only to find they think him mad.

Rescued by friends, who, to his surprise, have also come through time, he must find a way to function in this odd modern England. He is quickly enchanted by the kind Esme Crippen, the young woman hired to tutor him. Unfortunately, she too thinks him adorable, but mad. He must discover the means for getting her to believe the truth, all the while, unknown to him, he didn’t come forward in time alone. The enemy knight has also traveled to 2013.

French noble, Roger Marchand, doesn’t question why the English knight who charged him hesitated. That fraction of a pause gave him the advantage needed and he brought his sword down upon the Englishman’s helmet hard, unhorsing the knight. He moved to finish the Englishman off when the world changed in a rush of sensations as he is ripped through time.

Seeking a reason for the terrible event, he enters a nearby chapel. There, thinking God has chosen him for a quest to turn French defeat that day in 1356 to victory, he sets out to find the English knight. The man he is convinced holds the key to time. If he returns to the day of the battle, he can warn his king of mistakes that snatched victory from them.

Excerpt Two: Knight Blindness
She knocked and a short, compact man with grey, thinning hair, cloudy blue eyes, and the reddest lips she’d ever seen on a man answered. In a way, he reminded her of Rupert Bear. He wore a red sweater vest over an open-collared white shirt, unfashionable brown plaid cuffed trousers that looked a size too big, and well-worn brown, wing-tipped shoes.
“You must be Esme Crippen.” He gestured for her and Electra to come inside. He closed the door and extended his hand. “Will Davison.”
“I’m Esme,” she said, shaking his hand. “This is my sister, Electra.”
“Electra, a fine literary name,” Davison said as they shook hands.
Esme took a quick scan of the cluttered office, surprised a curator, even of a small museum, hadn’t a secretary.
“You said you’re looking for a drawing lent to us by the National Gallery in 1960. The Black Prince at Crecy, you said.”
“Yes. Does it sound familiar?”
“I was an apprentice here then. I believe I know the work you’re speaking of, an impressively detailed rendering considering the environment. It was done on vellum, we believe for the king, as colored inks were used, including gold, although no gold leaf was applied. We think the work was probably done by one of his priests. Unfortunately it was placed into storage back in the seventies and the facility burned to the ground in 1979.”

On to the reveal!

Never was there a tale of more woe than this of Juliet and her Romeo…But true love never dies. Though they’re parted by the veil between the world of mortals and the land of the dead, Romeo believes he can restore Juliet to life, but he’ll have to travel to the underworld with a thoroughly infuriating guide.
Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, may not have inherited his father’s crown, but the murdered king left his son a much more important responsibility—a portal to the Afterjord, where the souls of the dead reside. When the determined Romeo asks for help traversing the treacherous Afterjord, Hamlet sees an opportunity for adventure, and the chance to avenge his father’s death.
In an underworld filled with leviathan monsters, ghoulish shades, fire giants and fierce Valkyrie warriors, Hamlet and Romeo must battle their way through jealousy, despair, and their darkest fears to rescue the fair damsel. Yet finding Juliet is only the beginning, and the Afterjord doesn’t surrender souls without a price…

Excerpt for Such Sweet Sorrow:

Prologue

Two figures, both alike in stature and purpose, ducked beneath a bridge in Verona. The swollen river made mud of its banks. The men slid and fought against it, their torches flickering.
"Let's turn back, Romeo," Friar Laurence urged, pushing down the hood of his rough brown robe. "Can we not let poor Juliet rest in peace?"
The younger man fixed his friend with a critical eye. "Peace? My Juliet knows no peace, only eternal torment. She took her own life, and that is my fault."
They pressed on, Romeo's steps becoming more determined the weaker his limbs grew. The poison that had incapacitated him, but not killed him, had ravaged his body. Tonight, he traveled farther beyond his father's walls than he’d dared since the night he'd returned to Verona. Even though the prince had lifted his banishment, the streets still felt unfriendly. A truce had been called between Montague and Capulet there were plenty of young men who would like nothing more than to avenge their kin by killing Romeo.
Their destination lay far from the city center, in a small encampment of hovels beside the river. Faces peeked from behind tattered curtains as Romeo and Laurence traversed the narrow lanes between the dilapidated buildings, coming finally to the very wall of the city itself. It was at this border that they found the strega.
Her door was painted red, surrounded by talismans on long chains that hung from the recessed arch. Romeo ducked beneath a dried and crumbling chicken's foot and brushed aside a crudely shaped metal eye.
"I go no further." Friar Laurence backed away from the threshold, crossing himself. "Romeo, I warn you, this is a fearful path you tread. Your soul will be lost to darkness. You will perish in the flames of hell, I beg you not to do this."

    Review: Moonlight by Lisa Kessler

Moonlight (Moon Series #1) by Lisa Kessler
    Paranormal Romance, Shapeshifters
Ebook $3.79 (265 pages, ENTANGLED EDGE)
Rancher Adam Sloan is more than meets the eye. As the heir to his Pack, the sexy werewolf's biggest challenge is keeping his kin's true nature under wraps. But a group of jaguar shifters threatens to reveal the pack, blasting into town killing humans in plain sight. And when he smells one at the local diner, his standing orders are to take her out.
Lana Turpin doesn't realize she's a moving target. Raised in the foster system, she only knows that she blacks out during the new moon and wakes up without remembering a thing. But now she's being tracked by some strange organization that wants her back--even though she's never stepped foot inside their compound. And the stranger across the diner is watching her like an enemy.
It should be a simple mission for Adam, but when he touches the frustratingly beautiful Lana, his inner wolf howls...mate. Now, the two must find and stop the people who hunt her...and Adam must keep his own family from killing the only woman he will ever love.

    Author Site: www.authorlisakessler.com

Pack your bags for Reno! (5 stars)

Polar opposites, shapeshifting jaguars and wolves are mortal enemies by nature in Kessler's new Moon series. When werewolf rancher, Adam Sloan, sniffs out a jaguar at the local diner the last thing he anticipates is that she has no clue what she is. Then fate does one bigger and he discovers that she's his mate. On the run from a mysterious group of mercenaries Lana finds both protection and answers to her strange new moon blackouts in Adam. But growing up in the foster system hasn't made Lana trustful of strangers and Adam can't tell her why he can't seem to let her leave Reno.

If his pack finds out Adam is harboring one of the enemy the consequences are dire. Can he protect her from the dangerous organization bent on returning her to a place she knows she has never been while keeping his pack from killing her? Will Adam's pack make an exception if they discover that Lana's his mate or will they think she's the one behind the trouble brewing in Reno?

I'll just say it... the shapeshifter genre has gotten a little stagnant. The same concepts over and over and over. But having read and been really impressed with Kessler's take on vampires in her Night series I knew she was going to be bringing something cool to the table with shapeshifters and boy did she deliver. Werewolves and jaguars are pretty much polar opposites as I mentioned in my blurbing. They shift at different moon phases and while the former lives in packs, the latter are loners. It makes for a cool dynamic and opens up a whole lot of possibilities. The one thing they do have in common is something I have been dying to see a writer do... twins! They're always born in pairs and only males are born shapeshifters, females have to be turned. Without spoiling anything that is where it gets reallllly interesting with Lana.

Kessler has a great talent for building worlds worthy of urban fantasy for her paranormal romances and this one really shines. But it's her ability to set up a truly tense plot where the hero and heroine have the potential to be torn apart by elements beyond the usual tropes common in the romance genre that keeps it exciting and in MOONLIGHT she really delivers. There's so much keeping Adam and Lana apart that their HEA will be deliciously hard won and rewarding.

Secondary characters play a significant role in this series and were actually one of my favorite parts of MOONLIGHT. I'm really hoping she gets the longevity of the series so I can see my favorite character get his own book. (Yep, that's my subtle way of saying you better buy this one!) I'm actually not a fan of fated mates or first person alternating chapter narratives between the hero and heroine so the fact that I still loved this one says a lot about the story's quality.

Definitely one for fans of PNR that crosses into a more urban fantasy level of action and adventure. The romance is turbulent and there are some big surprises, one that had my jaw on the floor. A must read if you enjoy Sherrilyn Kenyon, Larissa Ione, or Kresley Cole.

Guest Post: Author Cindi Myers [The Wedding Gamble Blog Tour]

    Writing the Romantic Comedy.

I like sexy, romantic books. And I like funny books. I don't think the two are mutually exclusive.  I mean, great sex can be funny, and I think you need a good sense of humor for a lasting romantic relationship. So I love to write sexy, romantic comedies. The trick is to create a story that is fun and fast-paced, while still being sensuous and romantic. It's a real balancing act, and it can be tougher than it looks.
The writing starts with the premise -- it has to be humorous, with good romantic potential. With The Wedding Gamble, I wanted to write a Marriage of Convenience story. There's just something about two people being forced together in an intimate situation that I love. But I don't think those stories are very realistic in a modern-day setting. I think a modern MOC story works best when you have an element of fantasy. Which led me to Vegas. Talk about a modern-day fantasy setting! Vegas is really a world that is largely about make-believe, and doing things you wouldn't do in your everyday life.
Vegas leads to weddings -- a quickie Vegas wedding -- to a stranger. Why would a stranger persuade a woman to marry him? What if the mob was after him and getting married was a matter of life and death?
So now I have my romantic set-up. From there I tried to think about the characters who would get together like this and end up falling in love. A romantic hero and heroine have to need each other on a level they probably don't realize right upfront. My heroine, Laura, wants to be needed. She wants to make a difference. David is a man who's always held himself apart from others, but he learns he really does need Laura -- while she learns she really matters to him.
Once I had the characters and their romance down, I could have fun with the humor. Vegas is great for a romantic caper. There are so many great hotels -- each a fantasy world of its own -- to take them to. I could float them down the canals at the Venetian, send them on a roller coaster ride at Circus, Circus and play up the movie atmosphere of Planet Hollywood. I added in a couple of threatening but sometimes bungling mobsters, a ditzy sister and the general kookiness of the strip.
But even writing humor, you always have to come back to the romance. I fell in love with Laura and David and really wanted them to have their Happily Ever After. I hope readers feel these two deserve each other and that they enjoy the mix of romance and humor.

    About THE WEDDING GAMBLE

When nursery school teacher Laura Nichols, woozy from allergy medicine, wanders into a wedding chapel off the Vegas Strip, she thinks the gorgeous guy who asks her to marry him in order to save his life is part of some wacky new reality TV show. But when she wakes up in David Abruzzo’s bed the next morning, she realizes her safe and boring life is about to undergo a big change – maybe for the better.
An undercover agent with the FBI, David has devoted his life to bringing down the mob. When his cover is blown in Vegas, he needs a new story, fast. He hopes a quickie wedding and the story of a honeymoon on the Strip will induce crime boss Frank Zacolli into calling off his goons, and give David time to persuade his chief witness in the case against Zacolli, the mobster’s son Tommy, into returning to Chicago and testifying. He never counted on falling for the woman he picked out of the crowd as his bride – or that 48 hours by her side will make him rethink his loner ways forever.
They say what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, but what if you meet that special someone there that you can’t bear to leave behind?
What Happens in Vegas meets Wise Guys in this new romantic comedy from author Cindi Myers.

Weekend Reading [07/12-07/14] :: Want to Read vs. Have to Read

Those are my two goals for the weekend.

    Keeping it simple right?

I had a big project this week here at home. It's kind of a long story, but after spending my entire adult life living in apartments... living in a house has been hard. I love having more space but I never know what to do with it. We've repurposed our spaces a ton of times. My desk has been in three different locations but none of them have worked for me. I literally spent $1800 on a new computer I use only about twice a month because my desk was in a spot I couldn't work and watch my kids. While it's still not in the most ideal spot—our basement 'family room' has no windows and therefore very little light—we've finally redone the room to make it work for our daughter and me.

I now have lots of room to work at my desk, store my non-digital books, and hopefully put some of my things on display. Plus a TV and play area for the tot and enough space I can workout down here if I have to. The lack of light sucks but now I have an excuse to find a couple of cool lamps. Maybe eventually I can actually write a book from this spot. ☺

Anyone got big plans for the weekend? I'm heading to the movie theater to have my world rocked and finally see Pacific Rim! I remember being on IMDB probably going on 2 years ago and seeing just the name of the film, who was directing, and that my SOA cast faves were in it and knowing I'd be all over it no matter what the plot actually was. Then when it finally had more info it got even more exciting... I am such a nerd for this kind of film. Who else had this on their must-see list for the summer? Not gonna lie... it was my must-see for the whole year. Now I gotta wait until my birthday to get my Loki fix.

I'm actually not sure which book I'm working on this weekend yet. I didn't get a lot of reading in this week because of the project. I finished up MOONLIGHT last night and can't wait to promo it next week! Lisa is really on fire with this one. I know I have a stack of review books to read and I will probably get on one of them but I'm in need of some no-pressure reading really bad. I may actually have to schedule a week off of the blog again in August where I put aside all of my review reading too. I'm not very good at that whole making myself relax thing. I really need to get caught up on the Vampire Academy series, I didn't get the last two read because I've hit the point with books about 3 years ago where if (for the most part) unless I get a review copy I don't have time for it. It rocks that my reviews are in demand but it's not always the stuff I want to read that I'm taking on. Bigger names like Mead don't get offered to just any blogger even though my review of Frostbite was in the top 3 on Amazon for a while.

Anywho, there are a lot of books I really want to read outside of reviewing but the last two VA ones are at the top because I finally saw something about the movie that got me curious enough to check IMDB about it and I saw that they are planning to film here in Montana—the series is set here. I couldn't find any info about where and this is a HUGE state but I'm going to bet somewhere closer to Missoula which is a few hours west of where I am. I'm actually surprised they're going to bother filming in the state. Even films set here often get filmed in Canada instead. The funny thing is we're a super friendly and accommodating state culturally and it's gorgeous in most places so I think more films should come here. Less people stalking the stars and the sets and more getting shit done. lol

Anywho, I'm off to shower and figure out what I'm wearing to cancel the apocalypse. ;) Have a great weekend and be sure to leave me a comment about your reading this weekend. ♥ -- Rhi

Guest Post: Author Barbara DeLeo [Dishing Up Desire Blog Tour + giveaways!]

HI RhiReaders, it’s lovely to be with you on launch week for my latest book.

I have a fascination with twins, not the least because I’m mom to two sets. When we found out we were having identical girls at twenty weeks it was an enormous shock. I’d only ever imagined having one baby and it threw me into a bit of a spin. That wasn’t a patch onto the tornado I turned into when I found out I was having non-identical boys when the girls were only two! The girls are twelve now and the boys nine, but I’m still fascinated by the special bond twins have, and the whole idea of identity, especially when someone else in the world looks exactly like you.

Many people have warned me that I need to ensure my kids as individuals and we’ve done things like making sure each has their own cake at birthday parties etc. But I also feel quite strongly that twins have a bond that many of us “singleton’s” don’t understand, and that always trying to push our ideal of individuality on someone can be dangerous too.

In my latest book, Dishing up Desire, the hero Blake Matthews is an identical twin. He’s also an ex-international model whose looks have been his ticket to fame and fortune. But Blake has a hidden secret, something that has made his family shun him and it’s his desire to prove he’s more than his looks that drives him to be a success.

Are you a twin? Have you had experiences with twins? Or what do you think is at the core of what makes someone an “individual”?  I have an e-copy of an earlier book, Contract for Marriage to give away to one lucky commenter (Rhianna's note: I'll be drawing this one tomorrow morning!) and at the end of my blog tour we’ll be drawing the name of one commenter from all of the blogs to win a deluxe “Dishing up Desire” chef’s apron and a $50 Amazon gift card!

    Blurb:
Image consultant Blake Matthews is facing his toughest PR challenge yet: salvage the image of celebrity chef Kirin Hart. Once he does, he’ll be able to acquire LA’s most successful PR firm. But Kirin’s no easy fix. She’s stubborn about changing her comfortable homemaker image, and is being sued for sexual harassment by a junior staffer. She needs a PR lifeline fast. Only problem is Blake wants more than to make her over...
Kirin doesn’t need a makeover—her fans love her as she is. But she could lose everything if the sex scandal and reputation that has followed doesn’t get quashed right away. Kirin agrees to let model-perfect Blake work his magic for two weeks, but things get complicated when she can’t deny the way her body flares to life whenever he’s near.

    Author Bio:

Barbara DeLeo’s first book, co-written with her best friend, was a story about beauty queens in space. She was eleven, and the sole, handwritten copy was lost years ago, much to everyone’s relief. It’s some small miracle that she kept the faith and is now living her dream of writing sparkling contemporary romance with unforgettable characters.

After completing degrees in Psychology and English then travelling the world, Barbara married her winemaker hero and had two sets of twins.
She still loves telling stories about finding love in all the wrong places, with not a beauty queen or spaceship in sight.

Release Party: Love Him or Leave Him by Sara Daniel [+ giveaway!]

Sometimes dreams are where you least expect them.

Connor O’Malley and Becca Sanders were once high school sweethearts, ripped apart by rumors in the small town of Kortville, Illinois. Connor left to join the military, and Becca stayed, waiting for her younger brother to graduate so she could live her dreams of traveling the world. But now that Connor's back as the town sheriff, Becca finds herself struggling to resist the too-handsome man who once broke her heart.

Connor loves Kortville—its quaintness keeps at bay the painful memories of Afghanistan he’s sure make him unworthy of any woman, particularly the beautiful brunette he’s always secretly dreamed of a future with. But when a scandal rocks the town, suddenly Connor and Becca must trust in each other if they want to weather this storm…and come out on the other side of it together.
