Hi Jennifer! Welcome to RhiReading, where today we’re
welcoming you as you pass through on your KISSING KENDALL blog tour.
Thanks so much for having me!!!
As your first release with Entangled Publishing’s Bliss
imprint, KISSING KENDALL features a great friends-to-lovers plot. Kendall is a
widow facing her fears of moving forward, while Brad is the cop who’s had a
crush on her for ages. A romance between friends is always complicated but
adding in a spouse that has passed away makes for even more difficulties. What
challenges did you face bringing Brad and Kendall to their happily-ever-after?
Well, it was a challenge because Kendall did
love her husband who passed away. He was a really good guy, so I had to walk a
fine line when comparing him to Brad. I couldn't make him look bad but I
couldn't have Brad look second best either.
KISSING KENDALL is actually the second book in the Maritime
City series. I was really confused at first as to how I had missed the first,
GEORGIE ON HIS MIND, but as it turns out
that was released with another publisher. When you were writing GEORGIE
ON HIS MIND did Brad demand he get his own book? Since this is a series who can
readers look forward to getting a HEA next?
Yeah, it is confusing. LOL Brad didn't really demand his own book, but
my friends who read Georgie on His Mind sure
did! I figured they had a point and then I finally had to resolve it in my own
mind.
I love a good book that features a chef or baker because
there’s often a special recipe in the storyline that gets shared. KISSING
KENDALL has a doughnut muffins recipe that I’m looking forward to trying. How
did you come up with it?
I love to bake myself, so I was watching The Best Thing I Ever Ate on the Food
Network and doughnut muffins was featured. They sounded so good I had to try it
and then use it as Kendall's specialty. It was perfect timing.
With a tagline of ‘sweet & sassy short romance’ one of
the key elements of the Bliss imprint that makes it different from its sister
imprints is that any love scenes are closed-door or ‘fade to black’. What can
you tell my readers about KISSING KENDALL that might convince those who love
their romances filled with steamy love scenes to give it a try in spite of the
lack of nitty gritty details?
What I've been hearing from readers and
reviewers is that Kissing Kendall has
"sizzle" and "romantic tension that makes your toes curl".
I love that! That means I'm doing my job. :) I think the tension is the best
thing about romance novels. All the Bliss authors do a great job of showing
that kind of desire without the actual sex act written.
And now for a few just for fun queries:
Oh, goodie!
KISSING KENDALL’s Brad and his sister Georgie have quite the
sibling relationship. Who are your favorite famous siblings (fictional or
real)?
Bart and Lisa from The Simpsons are great. They fight all the time, but deep down they
love each other.
And I LOVED Raj and Dee on What's Happening!!
If you were stuck on a deserted island with only 3 items
mentioned in KISSING KENDALL what would they be?
Doughnut muffins, handcuffs, and of course, Brad.
LOL!!
And lastly, if the Maritime City series was being turned
into a television series and you had full casting decision making power whom
would you want to sign on to play certain characters?
I've always pictured Brad as Bradley Cooper
and Kendall as Emma Roberts.
But if they weren't available, I'd also settle
for Zooey Deschanel as Kendall and Ian Somerhalder as Brad. They'd be perfect too.
Thank you so much for the interview Jennifer and congratulations
on the new release!
It was MY pleasure. And thanks again for
having me. :)
About KISSING KENDALL:
Kendall Grisbaum is finally taking charge of her life—pouring her heart into opening a new bakery business and even allowing her best friend Georgie to play matchmaker for her. Trouble is, the one guy she secretly wants is Georgie’s older brother, Brad, who is decidedly off limits.
Brad can’t seem to get his little sister’s best friend out of his mind. He and Kendall used to be close friends, too, and as a local policeman, Brad can’t help but play protector, looking out for Kendall. When he offers to help her renovate her new bakery space on the side, their friendship—and their attraction—flares back to life.
Amid the temptation of doughnut muffins and blueberry cobbler, a new temptation draws them both closer. Can they take a chance on love when it means risking their friendship, even when not doing so risks everything?

About Jennifer Shirk:
Jennifer Shirk has a bachelor degree in pharmacy--which has in NO WAY at all helped her with her writing career. But she likes to point it out, since it shows romantic-at-hearts come in all shapes, sizes, and mind-numbing educations.
She writes sweet (and sometimes even funny) romances for Samhain Publishing, Avalon Books/Montlake Romance and now Entangled Publishing. She won third place in the RWA 2006 NYC's Kathryn Hayes Love and Laughter Contest with her first book, The Role of a Lifetime.
Lately she's been on a serious exercise kick. But don't hold that against her.
