Seeking On Sunday: The BETA Test! PLEASE READ & COMMENT!

Dear Readers,
I've been wanting to create this meme for a VERY long time but the very idea of running one is intimidating. I didn't feel like it was one I could ask for a co-host on and ultimately—thanks to DaVinciKittie from GraveTells putting the thought in my head—realized it would be a great monthly meme instead of weekly.
Ultimately, I still need to tweak it a little before it officially launches next month but it was important to me to flesh it out and hold a beta test period (yeah, my gamer geek just popped up there) before just diving in.
The beta test goal is to see what readers and my fellow bloggers think of the basic concept and how they would want to participate.
Would this meme appeal to you as a reader of blogs? If you saw someone seeking suggestions would you leave a comment if it was something you felt knowledgeable about?
As a blogger would you find this meme useful in cultivating chatter both on your blog and via your social networks? What kind of image would best suit your blog (size, color, etc.)? As a whole I do want the meme to be for ANY type of blog but would consider more than one style of 'button' if bloggers wanted to donate one to share with all participants that they made to suit their color scheme/theme/etc.
Please leave a comment with your thoughts and feel free to post a 'beta test' to your own blog to see what your readers think too! I would be super appreciative of any feedback (as long as it's constructive, of course) you can give. Especially if there's already a similar meme out there that I just have never managed to come across. That would be really sucky. ♥ -- Rhi
Seeking On Sunday is a once-a-month meme hosted by RhiReading to bring together readers who are looking for book suggestions. It is open to any blogger on the 2nd Sunday of each month who wishes to post one of the following:
  • an 'If you like this book/series/author, I think you will enjoy this book/series/author because...' suggestion post
  • a post seeking commentors' book suggestions within a certain set of terms
  • a post seeking the name of a book the blogger can recall details about but can't remember the name of
This is for ALL bloggers, not just book bloggers! If you're seeking bread baking books or suggesting board books for babies or having a difficult time finding the name of the romance novel you read the blurb of while standing in line at the grocery store this meme is for you.

Grab the button to share in your post &
feel free to share it in your sidebar too.

This week being the BETA test I'm just going to say that I'm looking for any book suggestions for middle-school aged boys. Minimal romance and male protagonists preferred. Anything involving martial arts or zombies or fantasy stuff like the Ranger's Apprentice series would probably help me out. My kid just HATES to read and reads way too fast for me to keep up with suggestions so I'm getting stumped.

He's read most of Rick Riordan's series, Maze Runner, and Young Samurai books.

If your blog or post contain strong sexual description or steamy photos please add (18+) behind your blog's name in the linky so anyone who does not want to view such can choose whether or not to visit your meme post. Thanks! :)

I like it! Here are my thoughts about the bullet points (and I think your "beta test" idea is great - I automatically knew what you wanted, so apparently I live too much in gamerland too LOL)

Image type and size:
- medium to large, but not larger than 500 px wide, preferably with a transparent background (png format)
- Two versions, one for dark themed blogs and one for light. Same content image/text and color scheme, just different emphasis
- Something universal to books and not specific genres. Maybe an open book with conversational bubbles or something like that?

For cultivating chatter:
- the "if you like" option might not bring as much chatter but will likely get some hits (it will show in search engines when people search for that). Personally, I can see myself using this one by taking a very popular series or book (say BDB or Night Huntress) and recommending other great books that readers new to the genre might not be able to easily find. Mix it up with some excellent self-pubs as well as some Indie publishers and the big ones.
- the two posts asking for input from readers will likely generate some comments. People love to tell other people their opinion, especially when it comes to beloved books (and isn't that why we are here?! LOL). They also like helping solve puzzles, so that last one is really cool, IMO.

I thought about doing a test run tonight, but I have double posts coming up the next few days and I don't want to overwhelm the subscribers!! Hah. Anyway, I think you're looking good!

You are the shit DVK! lol I'm glad it translated well. I think I might even use that 'clip art' thingy from the temp button to start so I can have something basic like what you suggested. I just don't draw and most pay stock is beyond my means for long term.

I was thinking I might do a small giveaway for participants in the first official one next month (maybe a $10 Amazon giftcard) to help drum up some interest and get the word out there about it. At worst I do it for a year and it gets no response so I stop putting it up. lol

Thank you sooo much for giving me more input!

I think DVK (Hey girl!) pretty much covered it all, hun but I like the idea and I def. think it would be something that bloggers could get into and you'd have participation in once the word got out.
The first bullet point made me think of 50 Shades right away though and I was like 'ehhh' because that is all you see now ("If you liked 50Shades then you'll love...") and it drives me crazy! lol Even though I loved 50, weird I know. Now BDB or NH, I can work with that. ;)
Your second two I think would go over well.

My only concern is, and this is totally just myself, is remembering every second Sunday of the month. You know me, lol.

But anyhoo, I think it all looks great!
