RhiReading News

Dear readers,

Spring is finally starting to happen 'round these parts and with it, I'm getting a bit busier in my offline world. So I'm playing catch-up with the blogs and planning to take a week off of them sometime soon. Stay tuned for details... 'cause even I need a vacation once in a while.

If you're an author who has stumbled by in hopes of requesting a review, I am currently booked through into June. Sorry! Until I get this massive review pile under control I am not accepting any more review copies until next month. I would love to share a guestpost if you're interested though!

Weekend Reading [03/02-03/04] :: When being a reviewer is the suck...

Yep. That's Cloud. In my herb pot. Killing my baby mint plants last spring. Stupid cat. But I have to give the turd some credit... rules don't stop him from taking risks and doing what he wants. I wish I could be a bit more like Cloud.

I've hit a bit of a brick wall as a reader/reviewer. I've got a stack of books I've picked up through Amazon Vine for review and the majority of them don't interest me anymore. But I need to read and review them as that's how the program works. Lately though I find myself staggering under the drudgery of it all. I can't remember the last time I read a book that wasn't a review copy. In a way that's great (who hates getting free books right?) but I NEED to get caught up on some of my fave series! The hubs keeps saying things like 'want me to just tell you what happens since you're never going to read it?' on the series we both read.

In other somewhat related news my computer is in serious need of being replaced. I've had nothing but issues with it since it was brand new (IMO it's a manufacturer's problem specifically) and it's hit the 6 YO mark. The hubs has given me approval (not that I need it since I'm the financial master in this family lol) to get myself a 'pimped-out computer' so I'm working on it. I just wish I could have it right now! I caved and picked up the Star Wars: The Old Republic which I know I'll have zero time for but I could use something other than reading to do in my spare time. I feel like all I do is read, blog, clean, cook, and take care of my kids with a few hours of TV thrown in here and there. I haven't even been hitting the gym since my MIL was injured and we haven't been able to go. I'm trying to keep reading from becoming a stresser instead of a relaxer. What non-reading hobbies do y'all do to keep from getting book burn-out?

This weekend I'm going to try and rush finish Under a Vampire Moon because I'm just not enjoying it. It was a Vine choice since there wasn't anything else interesting available at the time and I'm really disliking the heroine and hero. I don't get her hang-ups and kinda want to smack her in the head and the whole *maybe SPOILER* him pretending to be gay to get close to her *maybe SPOILER* bugs me. I'm trying to force myself to work only on it since the other book I'm working on—Busted in Bollywood— just started to get interesting. I'm reading a contemp can you believe it? I actually have a thing for all things Indian so I was super stoked to get this one. I'm finding the key to contemps working for me is that they have to hit one of my geek buttons. Do you have a hard time reading a certain genre unless there's a specific trope or element?

So what are you all working on this weekend? Spring cleaning? I've got two more months of winter to deal with so mine has to wait. I keep hearing about folks getting hints of spring and man does it make me jealous. lol Got a great book you're working on? Leave me a comment 'cause I want to hear about it! :)

On that note lovelies I am off to juggle errands, laundry, and count the hours until I get my Friday fix of bitchy back-stabbing women with gorgeous jewelry and ass-kicking dudes in loincloths on Spartacus Vengeance. -- Rhi

:D Hopefully I get time to start your series sometime soon too Rachel!

So far I'm digging BIB. There's something I can't quite put my finger on I'm not liking about it but since I tend to prefer books with fantasy/scifi/paranormal elements it says something that I'm even trying it. lol

And I'm almost finished with Under a Vampire Moon. I started skimming because I'm disliking it so much. I'm not sure why I'm as offended by it as I am but something about the hero pretending to be gay just rubbed me the wrong way. To each each their own I suppose... at least the sex scenes are steamy. lol
