Review: The Twisted Tale of Stormy Gale by Christine Bell

The Twisted Tale of Stormy Gale by Christine Bell
Steampunk, Romance, Alternate History
Ebook $2.99 (CARINA PRESS)
I'm a time pirate—born in 1810, now a 21st-century woman. I travel through time trying to right wrongs without disrupting the fragile balance between what is and what can never be.
That's why it's vital that I go to 1836 and find the man who conned my brother out of his Time Travel Mechanism as quickly as possible. If the technology falls into the wrong hands, it could change the world as we know it. The notorious Duke of Leister definitely qualifies as the wrong hands. An amateur scientist of the slightly mad variety, he's bound to figure out how to use the TTM sooner rather than later.
I knew this wouldn't be easy. But I wasn't counting on him being as sexy as hell. Or winding up chained to his bed…

Short, Sweet & Steamy (5 stars)

When her brother loses his time traveling device in a drunken poker game, Stormy Gale must get it back. The device is in the hands of a man known as the Looney Duke, a man with an interest in science and enough know-how to possible figure out the device's purpose. What she doesn't anticipate is that the Duke is deliciously sexy and when he outwits her she finds herself his prisoner. Stormy's in for more than she bargained for if she wants to get her brother's time traveling device back.

Now this, ladies and gentlemen, is how a proper steampunk romance novella is done. The characters are well introduced, we get enough of what is important about each to become invested in them. Their plight is simple and could be easily remedied but a nice twist throws it all out of whack. The hero and heroine have some nice steamy lovin' and there's a quick get-away. But a-ha! Foiled again. The adventure is thick enough to keep it a strong story, the characters are immensely likable and the steampunk elements are sprinkled in just enough that this really wasn't a full-on steampunk adventure, it could really appeal to time-travel romance fans.

Simply put I loved it, while it's a short read length-wise it hardly felt it because plenty of plot was packed in. Highly recommended to steampunk and time-travel romance fans looking for something quirky and quick on a rainy day.

Yay! I'm so glad you enjoyed it, and thanks so much for taking the time to review my work.

I'm plugging along on a sequel now (set to be a full length novel) tentatively titled From the Logs of Bacon Frogs. It's written half in Bacon's point of view and half in Stormy's. Stormy, Bacon and Dev are forced to travel back in time to Salem Massachusetts right on the tail end of the Salem witch trials. So far it's been a lot of fun writing.

Again, thanks so much for the lovely review!
