Review: Hunger Aroused by Dee Carney

Hunger Aroused by Dee Carney
Paranormal Romance, Erotica, Vampires
Ebook $4.99 (CARINA PRESS)
Jasmine is sick in bed when a sexy stranger breaks in and reveals she’s suffering an irreversible case of vampirism. And because her turning wasn’t approved by the Council, he must kill her once the transition is complete. In the meantime, the executioner offers to ease her torment with chocolate, hot peppers or sexual release. Fortunately for them both, Jasmine’s kitchen is bare...
Corin’s honor demands he do his duty, but he cannot execute the lovely woman while any part of her humanity remains. He must also find—and kill—her sire. Jasmine denies ever having contact with a vampire, causing Corin to question the justice of his orders. Sensing his hesitation, the Council dispatches another executioner, forcing the pair to make a run for it.
Every hour they spend together—every sensual encounter they share—finds them growing closer. Now Corin will have to choose: kill the woman he loves, or go against everything he believes to set her free.

Sexy Stand-Alone Vampire Romance (3 stars)

The last thing lonely, hard working Jasmine expected when she went home sick was to wake up with a stranger in her apartment. Especially a sexy stranger sent to kill her because it's not the flu she's suffering from. As miserable as a cat in heat she's going through a vampire's transition. Only Jas has no idea why and Corin is there to find out who sired her without permission then make an example out of them both. In spite of his stony exterior Corin can't help but wonder if it's possible she really has no clue how she's come to be at the turn.

When the Council that sent him to slay Jas decides he's gone rogue they send someone else to do the job and the pair flee hoping to find some answers. A passionate mix of danger, sex and betrayal will bring Corin and Jasmine to the edge of hunger.

I really wanted to like this one. It has elements I love a gladiator turned vampire, a hero and heroine I liked and vampires with rules. Unfortunately, it all felt flat. Its pacing was a little too stop-start for my tastes making it far too easy to put down. The plot seemed to consist mostly of flee, sex, more fleeing, more sex and so on. The sex was hot, the plot was not.

Readers who don't want any details regarding how a hero was raped by another man for decades might also find some of the flashback scenes a little hard to stomach. I'd personally have preferred more hint, less visual for those parts.

I would recommend this one to a reader who is looking for low plot, steamy erotica and doesn't have a problem reading the above mentioned rape bits. While I didn't like this one I think it gave me a good feel for the authors writing and I'll be looking into other work she's written.

Too bad this one wasn't great. The premise looks like it could have worked. Thanks for the honest review.

I did read some reviews that were pretty happy with it but I couldn't decide whether the author was going for erotica or story. Some authors can make both work but it's a tough call sometimes.
