For weeks, the immortal warrior Aeron has sensed an invisible female presence. An angel—demon-assassin—has been sent to kill him. Or has she? Olivia claims she fell from the heavens, giving up immortality because she couldn't bear to harm him. But trusting—and falling for—Olivia will endanger them all. So how has this "mortal" with the huge blue eyes already unleashed Aeron's darkest passion?
Now, with an enemy hot on his trail and his faithful demon companion determined to remove Olivia from his life, Aeron is trapped between duty and consuming desire. Worse still, a new executioner has been sent to do the job Olivia wouldn't…

Angels and Demons and Gods, Oh My! (5 stars)

For a while now, Aeron, Keeper of Wrath, and Legion, his demon companion, have felt an angelic presence following them. Watching them. With the angel's intentions unknown Aeron has grown frustrated and angry, attempting to call out the mysterious watcher. Driven away by the angel's lingering presence, Legion, once so very loyal to the man who thinks of her as his daughter, has hidden away once more in Hell. But when Aeron's angel falls rather than kill him and his precious demon child their world is turned upside down. To Wrath she is a little peice of Heaven. To Legion she is a challenger on every level. To Aeron she could be eternal damnation or sweet salvation.

Meanwhile, the Lords' war with the Hunters heats up. Huge secrets about Cronus and the Titans are revealed and the search for the final two artifacts becomes a trial the Lords may not be able to complete themselves.

Sorry guys! I feel like much more summary there and I'll give spoilers away. Definitely do not want to ruin this one for you. A lot of the overall series plot lines make big jumps in this one. Plus, we meet Gideon's heroine. Maybe it's been too long since I read the last installment but it seems to me like there is a lot of side story here with William, Gilly, Paris, Gideon and others than previous books have had. Personally, I like that. It makes the series feel stronger and less stand-alone. Others may not love that if they are strictly in it for the romance. I can say though it looks like most of those side plots were romanticly centered.

Aeron and Olivia are my favorite pairing so far. I tend to not like the naive, eager sort but it worked in Olivia. It made sense without seeming too silly. The sex—something I rarely find needs much comment on—was extra spicy. Lots of tease. Lots of sexual tension and build up. If you love a very drawn out seduction you'll love this one!

I can't say I am super happy with where Showalter went with Legion in this installment. I was very fond of her and did not expect the twist that she threw in there. I do not wish to be spoilery so suffice it to say I think some fans will be surprised and may not like it, while others may really enjoy the change. In the end I got the impression we'll see more about her in a later book but just what direction Showalter plans to go is in no way hinted at. I will, however, say that she is one author who I trust to not let us down in the long run. I have the feeling she has something good up her sleeve she just isn't revealing yet.

On the whole The Darkest Passion was full of surprises, really sexy and has earned it's spot as my favorite of the series thus far. I can't wait to see where all this is going!
