Vocabulary Is Fun

When I was a kid I loved spelling. I mean, obviously I enjoyed reading and writing, but I had a real passion for words. I loved to look new ones up and learn how they were spelled, what they meant and their origins. Fortunately I never felt the need to share this odd obsession with anyone or I might have had a few less friends and taken a lot more flack.

I still enjoy learning new words or getting reacquainted with ones I haven't heard used in a very long time. I keep a pen and some form of paper (often those annoying magazine subscription cards that fall out) near my bed so I can write them down for a look-up when I am not in the middle of something intense. Once my list fills up, or at least gets big enough I start worrying I won't be able to learn them all, I sit down with my list and my buddies Merriam and Webster.

I am sure most of you readers out there won'y find this post particularly useful or interesting but I thought I would share my most recent list of words I HAD to know! - Rhi

I'm the same way. I love learning new words, and when I see one I can't *not* look it up. I have to find out right then what it means.

I think it's fun to spell new and different words too. :)

LOL If I don't look them up they end up bugging me. I'm always afraid I'm going to use a word thinking I know what it means and totally fark it up. :P Reminds me of one of my fave movie quotes of all time: "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means." (The Princess Bride)
